Enforcement Directorate has issued summons to Jagan Mohan Reddy

Widening its probe into the finances of YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, the Enforcement Directorate has issued summons to him in connection with the money laundering case against the MP.

The Enforcement Directorate has asked Jagan, son of former A P Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, to send an authorised person who has his power of attorney to submit documents and answer questions on his behalf at its headquarters in Delhi on or before November 28.

The Enforcement Directorate has registered a case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against him and is also probing alleged contravention of foreign exchange rules in his financial transactions and investments, sources said.

The Enforcement Directorate action comes days after the CBI had searched various premises belonging to him. The CBI, which has also registered a case against him, had called him recently for questioning in connection with the alleged multi-crore iron ore mining scam.

The agency is said to be probing alleged nexus between Jaganmohan and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy who owns Obulapuram Mining Company. The case was registered after Enforcement Directorate conducted a probe to trail the funds pumped by the Kadapa MP and his associates into the companies owned by them.

id-ul-zuha

Prayers, sacrifice on Eid-ul-Zuha in Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: Attired in their best, Muslims across Andhra Pradesh offered prayers at mosques, Eidgahs and open grounds before the slaughter of 'halal' animals, symbolising the spirit of sacrifice, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha Monday. Imams, or priests, recalled the great sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim and exhorted Muslims to follow his teachings and the Quran for success both in this world and the hereafter. After the prayers, Muslims sacrificed goats and other 'halal' animals commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's great act of faith many centuries ago.
During the sermons, imams explained how Allah put Prophet Ibrahim to a most difficult trial and he readily agreed to sacrifice his only son Prophet Ismail. The Almighty accepted his sacrifice by replacing Prophet Ismail with a goat. The meat of the animals sacrificed on the occasion is distributed among neighbours, relatives and the poor.
Also known as Bakrid or Eid-e-Qurban, it is the second major festival of Muslims. They exchange greetings with relatives and friends and treated the visitors to their homes with sweets.
In Hyderabad, the biggest congregation was held at the historic Mir Alam Eidgah where over 200,000 people offered prayers. The historic Mecca Masjid witnessed the second biggest congregation.
Eid was also celebrated in other towns of the state with people turning out in large numbers at Eidgahs and mosques to offer prayers.

no mercy for accused

Mahila Sessions court dissmissed the petition of accused in sensational  murder.

The Mahila Sessions Court judge on Friday dismissed the petition filed by P. Venkata Rao, the prime accused, in the sensational murder case of eight-year-old Naga Vaishnavi, seeking permission to go for narco analysis test.
The accused filed a petition requesting the court to give permission for the narco test to prove his innocence. The hearing of the case will begin on January 23. The special public prosecutor, appointed by the government, Mr Brahmananda Reddy, has argued that there is no need to go for narco test, saying that the chargesheet has already been filed in the court and hearing will begin in January 2012.
The defence lawyer, Mr Ch. Manmadha Rao, said the accused is ready to go for narco test to prove his innocence.
The Mahila Sessions Court judge, Ms Nirmala Geetamba, dismissed the petition. The same court had earlier dismissed the bail petitions filed five times by the accused Venkata Rao. The police filed a chargesheet accusing Venkat Rao and two others in the sensational murder case of Naga Vaishnavi and her car driver Lakshmana Rao.
The girl was kidnapped and murdered while going to school in 2009.
Meanwhile, the BC Aikya Vedika leaders on Friday announced that they would observe one day fast on November 5 near the sub-collector’s office demanding speedy trial of the case.
The BC Aikya Vedika leaders, Mr Buddha Nage-swara Rao, Mr Bayana Sekhar Babu and Mr Nan-deti Prabhakar told reporters that the Vedika is demanding that the culprits be brought to the book at the earliest.

CBI yet to quiz co-accused MGF

The Central Bureau of Investigation seems to be going easy on Emaar PJSC and its Indian subsidiary Emaar MGF, the co-acc-used in the Emaar scam. The apex investigating agency has not made any serious effort to interrogate Emaar PJSC chairman Mohd. Ali Alabbar, who is also chairman of Emaar MGF, and Emaar MGF managing director Shravan Gupta. CBI joint director V. Lakshminarayana said that the probe does not cover the role of Emaar and MGF so far.
“We will see,” Mr Lakshminarayana said when asked about CBI questioning the top brass of the two companies. Sources said that MGF enjoys a close rapport with powerful friends. “The Vigilance and Enforcement department, within its limited scope, established that the staff members of Mr Gupta were shown to be allottees of villa plots in the integrated golf course and residential project,” sources told this correspondent.

T-Emplopys call off strike

Telangana employees call off 42-day-old strike

HYDERABAD: Government employees in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Monday night called off their 42-day-long strike for a separate Telangana state.

Leaders of Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee (TEJAC) decided to call off the strike following talks with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Over 400,000 employees, who were on strike since September 13 as part of a people's strike to demand the creation of a Telangana state, will return to work from Tuesday

The chief minister agreed to all nine demands of the employees. The government and TEJAC leaders signed an agreement after several rounds of talks during the day.

The government agreed to treat the strike period as special leave and to pay the salaries by approaching the high court to seek exemption from "no work no pay" rule as a special case.

It also accepted the TEJAC's demand to withdraw cases booked against striking employees and reinstate those removed from service.

The government agreed to form a committee to monitor implementation of Government Order 610 relating to repatriation of employees belonging to other regions of the state.

With TEJAC's decision, all sections of employees and workers in the region have called off their strike.
Last week, teachers, transport employees and coal workers had withdrawn the strike.

faction fight in Manipur

Fire exchange in a village of Manipur
IMPHAL: Two militant factions exchanged heavy gunfire at an interior hill village in Manipur's Tamenglong district but there was no casualty, official reports said today. There was a gunfight between two Naga militant outfits NSCN-IM and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) at Guitang Tinkao village yesterday and the exchange of fire lasted for several hours.
Reports said villagers fled to safer places during the gunfight. Security personnel reached the spot this morning for further investigation, reports said.
ZUF did not want NSCN-IM men to operate in their (ZUF) area while NSCN-IM was once active in all Naga-settled area in Manipur. Tamenglong district is mainly inhabited by Nagas of different communities. On October 7, there was a heavy exchange of fire between NSCN-IM and ZUF militants during which five NSCN-IM men and a civilian driver were killed and over five others injured.

Maruti in Gujrat

Labour ferment may drive Maruti to Gujarat NEW DELHI: Maruti, which is synonymous with Haryana and Gurgaon, is looking outside the state to set up its operations. The continuing labour unrest at its Manesar and Gurgaon plants appear to have hastened its search, and the company is zeroing in on Gujarat. Already, Maruti car sales have been affected, and more worryingly for the firm, the demand seems to have been hit because of the uncertainty about delivery schedules, making the management of the country's biggest car-maker rather anxious.Sources say the Japanese automaker, frustrated over the repeated interruptions in production due to labour problems at Manesar, wants to quickly finalize its expansion plans beyond Haryana, something that's not liked by the state government but is seen as "urgent" by the company's management
While Suzuki chairman Osamu Suzuki met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on September 8-after the collapse of the first peace agreement and in between the second labour strike-the company's board looks set to approve the proposal to invest Rs 18,000 crore, including Rs 6,000 crore by auto ancillaries, in Gujarat for a plant spread over 1,000 acres and with a capacity of two million units.
For Haryana, this will be the second blow after Japanese auto major Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India decided to set up plants in Rajasthan and Karnataka following major labour unrest at its Manesar facility. Like HMSI, Maruti Suzuki executives admit in private that the Japanese management is not particularly happy with the Haryana government's handling of the labour problems at its Manesar car plant as well as its engine and parts manufacturing facilities. The production loss to the company due to the three strikes, including the current one which has already lasted 12 days, has been over 60,000 units, resulting in a production loss of a Rs 1,800 crore. In the June quarter, Maruti's total income was estimated at Rs 8,500 crore, while the profit was Rs 550 crore.Interestingly, this will be the largest factory site for Suzuki globally, bigger than the combined size of its existing sites at Gurgaon and Manesar. The new facility in Gujarat will mark the beginning of a slow shift out of Haryana-a move that could affect not just the automobile hub in Delhi's neighbourhood but also impact real estate activity in and around Gurgaon. Already, several automakers, ranging from Tata Motors to Ford and Peugeot-Citreon, have started work on setting up facilities in Gujarat, which is emerging as a major auto hub in the country.
The fresh labour unrest at Manesar seems to have jolted the company out of, what many insiders describe as, its "comfort zone". "There is clearly a need, an urgency, to look for a new production hub," they said.Maruti chairman R C Bhargava refused to comment on the manner in which the Haryana government has handled the crisis, but minced no words while describing the present state of affairs in the belt. He said, "The labour here is militant, and if there is no improvement in the situation, this belt will surely suffer industrially. Not only Japanese investments, but investment plans of other countries and companies will also be hit."
In 2009, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had told a public gathering (in the presence of current Maruti MD Shinzo Nakanishi) that he had been assured by Osamu Suzuki that all Maruti's expansion plans would be undertaken "only in Haryana". Maruti's flirtation with Gujarat now also betrays its disillusionment with Haryana. Company executives also say in private that the movement beyond Haryana (especially the NCR region) will also mean that Maruti is insulated from the "Delhi's political influence". Bhargava has already blamed the political interferences for the labour troubles at the company, though he has refrained from naming anyone.
If the Gujarat proposal goes ahead, the production from the site at Becharji in Mehsana is expected to start by 2015. In the first phase, which will be completed by 2020, a capacity for one million units will be build. The next phase of expansion will follow.

Explosive found at Ambala Railway Station

Delhi Police officers probing the 7th September Delhi High Court blast have found a car packed with explosives at Ambala Cantt railway station, Haryana.

As per reports, Thursday, the special police officers were tipped off about a possible terrorist attack at the Ambala Cantt railway station; they reached Ambala around 6.30 pm yesterday.

Train Serivces are hold in Telangana

Rail services across Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh will come to a standstill from Friday night as trains scheduled for the weekend have been cancelled in view of the two-day blockade by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC).

The rail blockade, the second in less than three months, will snap the link between Hyderabad and other destinations in south and north India. The rail transport between Telangana and two other regions of the state will also be paralysed.

The South Central Railway has announced cancellation of 55 express and 176 passenger trains over the next two days.

The cancelled express trains include all the trains running between Hyderabad and Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Guwahati, Patna, Rajkot and Balharshah.

Routes of 63 trains, including 33 express trains, have been cut short.

The authorities have also announced that 55 trains will be diverted and four rescheduled.

The trains diverted and those whose routes have been cut short include those originating in either north India or other parts of south and passing through Telangana.

Some long-distance trains scheduled to depart Friday and coming to Hyderabad or passing through the region have been cancelled. They include New Delhi-Secunderabad, Patna-Secunderabad and Kakinada-Secunderabad express trains.

The train blockade called as part of the indefinite 'people's strike' for separate statehood to Telangana will add to the woes of the commuters as state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses remained off the roads in the region for the fifth day Friday.

The twin cities of Hyderabad-Secunderabad will be the worst hit as even auto rickshaws will go on a two-day strike from Friday midnight.

The rail blockade has also forced the South Central Railway to cancel all 222 MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) services or local trains in the twin cities and 102 DHMU (Diesel Hydraulic Multiple Unit) trains in other parts of Telangana.

This will be the third rail blockade called by Telangana groups this year and the second in less than three months.

The train services were paralysed March 1 while the railways had cancelled 43 trains as a precautionary measure March 10 in view of the 'million march' in Hyderabad. Another blockade was observed July 14.

Gali Janardhan Reddy Collected 1000 Crs as his private royalties

CBI sources say that the interrogation of mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy while in their custody last week has revealed that he ran a 'mamool raj' in the Bellary iron ore mining area and had collected Rs 1,000 crore as his `private royalty' from the fellow miners in just three years.

This is in addition to the illegal mining he had done in the region. According to the sources, there were roughly 300 such miners who have been paying mamool to Gali's Obulapuram Mining Company.

As per CBI sources, Gali browbeat the miners by telling them that he could get things done through the governments not just in Karnataka and AP, but in New Delhi as well. Thus, he would force them to sell him 70% of their iron ore at Rs 700 a ton while the market price was Rs 5,000 per ton. The remaining 30%, the miners could sell it in the open market at the prevailing rate. This was known as the 70-30 method, the sources said.

Armed with this revelation, the CBI has concluded that Gali had collected 'mamool' for 28 lakh tonnes which should have fetched him more than Rs 1,000 crore between 2007 and 2010. He was exporting the ore thus collected to China and other countries along with the ore he mined illegally at Rs 5,000 per ton.

He too was selling the ore to certain foreign players at the same rate he bought' from the fellow miners as a matter of strategy and the foreign players were asked to pay the balance amount in the form of investment in his firms mainly Brahmani Steels, the CBI sources said. It was this re-routing of money that has now formed the crux of the money laundering probe launched by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at Bangalore and the CBI sleuths. Whether CBI's contention can stand in a court of law remains to be seen.

Several aggrieved miners who were made to sell their ore to OMC at a low rate unsuccessfully tried to get relief by complaining to the top political bosses about Gali's 'mamool raj' are now turning witnesses for the CBI, it is learnt.

Power cut in Hyderabad and RR District for 2 Hrs

The people's strike ( Sakala Janula Samme) by the state government employees belonging to the region has gradually begun to envelope the Greater Hyderabad region with the authorities imposing a two-hour staggered power cut in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts effective Wednesday.

The power cuts are due to the boycott of work by employees of Singareni Collieries Company Limited where coal production has effectively dropped to zero ever since the general strike began on September 13.

While the strike has already paralysed normal life in the other Telangana districts, the districts of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy have managed to limp along till now as shops and establishments, shopping malls, cinema halls, autorickshaws and petrol pumps have managed to remain open till date.

Only educational institutions in the Greater Hyderabad region have been forced to stay shut while services at the various RTA offices have been badly affected. APSRTC, which operated about 3,000 buses in GHMC limits, did not ply a single bus on Monday but managed to ply about 271 vehicles on Tuesday.

However, with the GHMC employees joining the strike on Tuesday , which effectively paralysed all citizenry services in all its offices, and power cuts made mandatory from Wednesday, the state capital is gradually inching towards a shutdown already on in the other T districts. Auto drivers in the city are slated to strike for two days on September 24 and 25, while the Telangana Political JAC has called for a rail roko across the region on the same two days. "If the general strike continues for a few more days, it is not long before normal life is paralysed in the Greater Hyderabad region as well," said state government sources in the grip of the crisis.

Giving a lethal blow to the state administration is the total participation of the 70,000-odd workers of Singareni Collieries in the four districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar , Khammam and Warangal right from day one of the strike. The normal production of 1.5 lakh tonnes of coal by the 50 mines everyday has dropped to about 30,000 tonnes per day now with Managuru in Khammam being the sole major producer of coal.
