Several speakers at the Pravasi Telangana Divas-2010 have emphasized on the need to create a separate Telangana State without any delay. Pravasi Telangana Divas-2010 was held jointly by the Telangana Development Forum- India, and the Global Friends of Telangana, at Babu Jagjeevanram Bhavan, here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, eminent freedom fighter and an ardent Telangana protagonist, Acharya Konda Laxman Bapuji, while recalling the bitter experiences relating to Telangana movement earlier, said that one should not forget how the people of Telangana were cheated on many occasions and warned that they should not remain idle by having hope in the political parties. He said that presently, two parallel movements were going on for Telangana, one by the political parties and the other by the students, intellectuals and many other professionals, and added that while the former involves some selfish motives, the latter was not so. Hence, Mr Bapuji said that all those who comes under the second category should unite together.
Warning that the people would not remain silent if any deceit takes place this time like earlier, Mr Bapuji advised the people to continue their movement in a peaceful manner, if anything happens contrary to their expectations. He also said that if Telangana State is formed then the people has to undertake a movement to usher in the formation of a “Social Telangana”, in which all the underprivileged sections get their legitimate due.
State Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president, Ms Vijaya Laxmi said that even as the Telangana movement has been going on for the last 50 years, yet there was no positive move from the governments. She also noted that carving out a separate Telangana state was the only panacea for all the maladies of the region.
Executive Member of State BJP, Ms Vanam Jhansi alleged that both the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party had colluded to cheat the people of Telangana. Referring to the pending cases against the students, she questioned why the cases have not been lifted yet, though the Union Home Minister, Mr Chidambaram assured to lift the cases. Reiterating the BJP’s support to Telangana, she sought to question the sincerity of the UPA regime in relation to Telangana issue by asking as to why it did not ask the support from the BJP regarding tabling of the bill in the Parliament for Telangana State when it did so in case of Legislative Councils, Nuclear Pact with the USA, the Women Bill.
Secretary of the TDFI, Mr Sridhar said that over the last two years it has been doing its proactive bit for Telangana movement. He said that in favour of Telangana State, the forum has submitted its version to the Sri Krishna Committee as well as a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Manmohan Singh. It was conducting awareness programmes exhorting students not to commit suicides and is assisting the meetings being held in various districts for the sake of Telangana. It had written letters to all political parties urging their support for creating Telangana State. He also added that it submitted a memorandum to the State Human Rights Commission against the lathi charge on the students at Osmania University and educating the people as to optimal utilization of resources in a prudent manner.
The TNTF president, Mr Arun Kumar, the Telangana NGO Forum president, Mr Swamy Goud, the “Oggu katha” exponent, Mr Chukka Sataiah, the Kakatiya Foundation chairman, Mr Narahari Venu Gopal Reddy, also spoke. (NSS)
